Paletown looks like a trouble maker, he really does. He has this face that just sports a cheeky expression with eyes that could make the palace guards in England shout. On top of that, the state of his physical appearance isn't that great either. He's usually messy looking, unkempt blonde hair (messy but never dirty, he's oddly OCD about dirty hair) and torn up clothing. It's not uncommon for him to walk around with a black eye or busted lip either, since he gets into a lot of fights- half the time though, he can't remember where they came from.
He's very lanky and underweight, and the fact that he's tall doesn't help either, so he usually wears some kind of sweatshirt. As for pants- well, he doesn't usually wear pants. He's fine running around in nothing but boxers, not even shoes, but if he DOES wear pants, it'll be jeans. And the only shoes he'll wear are sneakers- without socks of course. You'd have to sedate him to get him to wear socks, seriously. He doesn't usually seem self conscious about his weight because he walks around without a shirt on all the time (in public or otherwise), but he has random sprees where he's afraid he might be embarrassing someone and will clothe himself with the next available item.
Pale is very difficult to explain personality wise because he's not even sure who he is or where he stands. Most people think he's really humorous because of all the shenanigans he does on a daily bases, but alot of the things he's done are fueled by deep rooted hatred and self-image issues that he doesn't know how to deal with. He likes to do things for instant satisfaction, which is why he never bothers to control even the weirdest of his impulses, and is actually addicted to doing these overly-daring and dangerous things because it keeps his mind off the real issues. It's important to understand that everything he does, EVERYTHING, is driven by some underling emotion that he can't deal with normally. For example, the reason he sleeps on Lee's porch instead of inside (unless she forces him) is because he feels guilty that he doesn't offer any money to help with rent, because he doesn't have a job.
He has absolutely no respect for the law. Rules mean nothing to him if he doesn't know who you are. He'll obey the house rules of friends, or establishments where his friends work, but other wise forget it. He's a familiar face at the local police stations, fire departments, psychiatrists and so on. He doesn't give a flying fuck about any of them. He hates hospitals and refuses to go to any of them (you need some serious coaxing or need to force him into it), and he thinks Psychiatrists are people who want to be doctors but aren't smart enough to get the degrees. Despite how he lives and how he acts, Paletown is INCREDIBLY smart. He can memorize a large amount of information in a very short amount of time and actually spit it back out at you at any given time (he's taken the liberty to memborize laws and so forth to piss off cops) and he has a sort of photographic memory. However, he has spurs where he can't remember where he is or where he's been. The kid has a bit of an anger problem, even though he doesn't look it, and a few triggers will send him flying off a violent deep end. He will beat the shit out of you if you aren't Lee.

Pale was born addicted to heroin. His mother was a hard core druggie and did more of her fair share of substances, even while pregnant, which almost caused the death of her newborn and accidental son. She was forced into rehab and, in a way, so was her kid. He wasn't named until he was almost 5 months old, and his name was thought up in spur of the moment (his mom happened to be reading a magazine and 'Joshua' was the first male name that appeared on the page). When mommy checked out, along with baby Josh, they stayed in a shabby apartment for the next five years. Mom went from heroin to drinking and worked at a bar and casino. Most the money went to the beer fund. Anyway, a few months later, child services showed up because word got back that Josh still wasn't in school. They sent him to a foster family in Pennsylvania. 'Josh' was enrolled into a Catholic school, starting at full day kindergarten, where he met Tommy and Lee, one bad boy and one pyromaniac girl. As they grew up, the three of them learned to maneuver around the system and caused enough mischief to be remembered for future generations. They were split up when Tommy was expelled in fifth grade. A year later, Josh's mom was deemed an appropriate mother and fought to get hre kid back; after a tear jerking bull shitted trial, she was granted full custody and Josh moved back to NYC, leaving his 'home down' behind. But old habits died hard and he couldn't shake his detest of the woman, so he frequently took off back to Lee's house (once living a month in her attic without anyone knowing, Lee included) In 8th grade, Josh and his mom got into a fight and he jumped out of the truck. Later, he ran away from the hospital, and hitchhiked for about two weeks before he was completely lost, and the road he was on was called 'Paletown'. He decided to change what he called himself and there you go. Eventually, the police picked him up and brought him back, but once he hit high school, he got his mom to sign the consent forum for dropping out while she was drunk. After that, he never went back home.
He made his way back to PA a few years later to find Lee graduating high school and no news on Tommy. When Lee moved out, she let (or rather 'told') Pale room with her since he had no where to go. He currently sleeps on her porch from time to time unless she drags him inside, and also stays in random, abadoned apartments. He bought her her dog too.
