("Fish Out of Water" continued...)
The conversation seemed to have died in a rather uncomfortable way just before the door was unlocked and opened to allow shoppers inside. Kyng bid a brief farewell and slipped inside, on the hunt for some clothing that was more fitting for this place than his usual travel wear.
The store was brightly lit with wide aisles and short racks. He shuffled through the clothes, keeping in mind what he saw as he came into town as well as picking through the fabrics seeking something sturdy and practical. The result of his search were two pair of blue-jeans and a half-dozen plain shirts in various neutral colors. The clerk cast him a curious glance and rang up the clothing, announced the total, and looked on skeptically as Kyng pulled the bag from his belt and counted several coins and pushed them across the counter.
Unfortunately coinage, even that made completely of gold, silver, copper or bronze, was not acceptable. "I can't accept that, it's not money." The clerk stated, giving Kyng a skeptical, tired look, as if this was a sign that the rest of her day would be just as trying and difficult.
